If you think the 7-14/4.0 doesn't cut it, consider dusting off your Nikon D5000 with a Sigma 10-20/3.5 or better yet a Tokina 11-16/2.8. You trade weight for a better lens.

Yeah. I had Sigma 10-20 (f/4-5.6) plus a tripod for a while. The problem is after E-M5II, I've got so much addicted to stabilization that I can't imagine myself not having strong stabilization ever again. Non of the ultra wides for nikon have that. Olympus Pen series offer at least 2-3 stops of IS. So does Sony 10-18.

I recently sold my Sigma 10-20f4-5.6.  I used it on my D90/D7100 for many years but never had to shot below 1/60s, so VR was not a need for me.  There's always a tripod when you need stability.

The Tokina 11-16/2.8 is one stop brighter that my previous Sigma, But the trade-off with large aperture in APS-C is that you'd lose sharpness due to depth of field. Also it is very big for what it offers.

Both are big and heavy when you compare them with m43's but the thing is they're ergonomically suited with bigger body Nikon dSLR like your D5000 (and D90/7100).

I returned a Tokina for the Sigma because I noticed I almost always stop it down to f4.0 for deeper DOF - we are talking about landscape after all.  It also helps to have the extra 1mm on the wide end / 4mm on the other end.
