Angle of view is not the only reason I'm not considering 9-18. It is also visibly less sharper than Panasonic 7-14. look at this link . The only problem I see with 7-14 is the flare and high purple fringe.

A couple of conclusions from the review you link to are:

  • The Panasonic 7-14mm is slightly sharper than the Olympus 9-18mm, especially on the image edges
  • Olympus 9-18mm is significantly smaller than the Panasonic 7-14mm

As always there is no perfect lens and you will need to compromise. The same is true for systems but the key is to find the right compromise for you.

I've previously owned the Sigma 10-20mm f/3.5 and the Tokina 11-16mm f/2.8 (mentioned in other replies) in my Nikon DX days. They were both lovely lenses but ultimately I jumped to MFT for the size/weight advantage. There may be a quality difference but I didn't feel that was limiting my photography. That was my 'compromise' but yours will be personal to you.

If you stick with MFT and your priority is something slightly sharper go for the Panasonic; if your priority is something significantly smaller go for the Olympus. If you want to try another system do, but spend responsibly 😉

I hope you figure out your priority soon and make the right choice for you.
