If you think the 7-14/4.0 doesn't cut it, consider dusting off your Nikon D5000 with a Sigma 10-20/3.5 or better yet a Tokina 11-16/2.8. You trade weight for a better lens.

Yeah. I had Sigma 10-20 (f/4-5.6) plus a tripod for a while. The problem is after E-M5II, I've got so much addicted to stabilization that I can't imagine myself not having strong stabilization ever again. Non of the ultra wides for nikon have that. Olympus Pen series offer at least 2-3 stops of IS. So does Sony 10-18.

Do you even need IS on wide angle lenses? Any reason I can think of where you would be doing architecture or landscape photography a tripod would be a better way than handholding. is the Sony 10-18 even sharp wide open at the corners? wouldn't you have to stop it down a bit to get better sharpness?

The Tokina 11-16/2.8 is one stop brighter that my previous Sigma, But the trade-off with large aperture in APS-C is that you'd lose sharpness due to depth of field. Also it is very big for what it offers.

Aren't you getting a sony APS-C sensor which would still be the same effect as the Nikon?
