Single point, zone, or wide? (auto focus)

Hi,

I am currently confused on what autofocus setting do i have to choose as i am new to photography hence the question. I have a wife and a kid whom usually i take pictures with. I am having difficulties in focusing both of them single point as usually is only at the center and would not mark them both.

  1. Single point focus - middle point focus and adjust the aperture enable more details to both of them?
  2. Wide - is this advisable for still subjects?
  3. Zone - they usually not fit in the zone box.
  4. Face detection (only applicable in Zone and wide) - is this good?

I have an Xt10 with 27mm lens. For wife and kid photography is it better to get the 35MM f2 or the 56MM F1.2? Will they fit on both lenses?

Thanks.

Arvin
