Need help making a decision!

I am currently torn between the X-T10 and D5500. The advice I have received thus far has been to look at the system and, in particular, the lenses. Going by this advice, Fuji seems to be the better choice, given that both their 18-55mm kit and 35mm f/2 lenses are better quality. However, looking around on the internet, I sometimes feel like the pictures I see taken with the D5500 look somewhat sharper, despite often hearing that Fuji's OOC JPEGs are awesome. My question is, could it have something to do with the two cameras' default JPEG sharpening algorithms? And is it possible to bump up sharpening in the settings to get the same sharpness I'm seeing with the D5500?
