x-Pro & XF 35mm f2 Magic!!
May 21, 2016

Well, I have come full circle. Some may remember my documented story on here. I was an early adopter of the X-Pro1 and XF 60mm macro lens. I did not realise at the time, that was the worst combination - the Pro1 one in its early infancy and the slow-focusing macro. I lost many shots on a trip to Asia in 2012, and gave up in disgust on Fuji (keeping my X100). I sold everything and went back to Nikon. I have taken some beautiful shots over the intervening years, but always remembered the potential magic of the Fuji files, and the ease of use and lightness of this small gear. Fast forward to April 2016 - a few years older now and a few more back-pains lugging that huge kit around Asia. I sold the last of my Nikon gear last week and replaced it with a X-t1 and battery grip, with the 55-200. I think that setup is magic. Small, light, nice fast focusing now - beautiful files. However, I still yearned for the magic of the X-Pro1 files. I finally tracked down a mint one last week (very hard to find new now in Australia), and simultaneously ordered a new FX35mm f2.
After a busy week my wife and I finally got to go for a drive today. We went out to the Ora Banda Historical Inn. I was able to finally try out my mint Pro1 and 35mm, to see if I could reproduce that magic that I remembered from 2012. After a very serious lecture from my darling wife, for buying another camera, I was able to grab a few quick photos. These are not perfect and I have only fiddled with them a little on Lightroom. However, I am blown away by the colour and clarity from a 16mp processor. The photo of my wife is on ASA 3,200 - absolutely amazing. If that had been my D3x it would have been just about unusable at that high ISO. The lovely clear colours and clarity of the 'Bikies' outside, is also very lovely. I can feel another exciting

chapter of my photography about to open. We are going to Vietnam for 2 weeks soon to catch up with her parents, then I am off for nearly a month to Myanmar at Xmas. With gear like this I can't wait.
