I did this with my a6300. I can do the same with A7RII that I have but I guess it'll be similar trend.

I posted a few initial test images on another thread a while back, being very happy with this lens. I'm putting this lens through its lenses but I notice it's pretty soft wide open. I compared it with the 70-200 F4 at similar aperture:

When its down to F8, then it becomes pretty darn sharp, similar to the F4:

At 300 mm F8, it beats the 70-200 at F8 cropped.

At 70mm wide open, its pretty gross (this is x3 magnification..)

at 70mm, with F8, the difference disappear:

For fun, 70-300 wide open vs 70-200mm both wide open

at 200mm, 70-300 wide open vs 70-200mm both wide open:

And at 200mm, 70-300 wide open vs 70-200mm at 5.6:

So My conclusion so far is the 70-300 is great lens for outside AT F8 (I didn't' have the time or patients to try 6.7, that will be the next thing to check out but you can extrapolate ...) AT low light, when you need to have it open, dont bother with the 70-300.. I guess I'll keep the 70-200 for now.  Wish the 70-200 F2.8 with teleconverter was here. I'd just get that combo and be done with this. I think..

Curios to know if you guys have had similar experience.
