Hey, maybe way too many words but if it doesn't help you then some lurker may get something out of it.

A lurker like me- thanx Guy!

No problems, in the mornings I have lots of words stored up to get rid off, so that long post helps.

Anyway, we could summarise in less words....

  • In-lens shutter: Limited usually re faster shutter speeds, needs to be one in every lens. Good feature is flash sync at all speeds.
  • Focal Plane shutter: Best compromise to get best range of shutter speeds. Flash sync speed limited.
  • Focal Plane shutter with EFCS: Best way to get rid of shutter shock.
  • Electronic shutter: In its current form lots of problems but gets rid of shock and mechanical noise issues. Flash sync hopelessly slow (if at all) due to very slow scan times.
  • Global shutter: The ideal, digital cameras will be at last digital. Perfect for flash at all speeds. Years yet to wait for that shutter.

Regards.... Guy
