Sorry to hear that. Get a DP1M or DP1Q or DP0Q and you will not have that problem since the lenses are fixed.

Thanks for you empathy. I am considering getting the dp1m, but two things prevent me from getting it soon:

1. File size is soo large... I like the handling of the (relatively) small files of the pre merril age.

2. Battery life. With the dp2x and dp1s in the bag, I always carried four batteries, good for about one weekend out. I am afraid I have to double that in case of the dp1m..

Daniel,

Battery life is better with the DP Qs and image quality is great with both the DP Ms and Qs both of which can be used at low res. if you want to keep the files similar to your dead DP 1. The Jpegs from the DP Q are also very good can also do RAW conversion in the camera. Good luck with whatever you choose.

I can heartily recommend the dp0q.  Raw file size of a lo-res shot is 25 meg or less, compared with about 15 meg for classic DP2 raws, and compared with 50+ meg for Quattro hi-res.  SPP processes the lo-res files much faster than the hi-res, and many say the color and image quality is better in lo-res.

It is a positively huge camera relative to the classic DP1 of course, but surprisingly lightweight.
