My Hadley Pro is about 11 years old and doesn't look a day over 2 months! It's held everything from large, pro cameras and lenses to my current Leica and M4:3 gear. It's a superb bag that will last anybody's lifetime.
No other bag I have ever bought and tried quite matches up with the simplicity and elegance of the Billingham Hadley. There are lots of nice bags out there, but most fall short once you've gotten used to a Hadley (or any other Billingham for that matter).
Most of the other bags are truly inferior to the Hadley in terms of bulk, weight and difficulty in getting to the gear as well as putting the gear back in the bag. There are some really clumsy designs out there from even the most respected brands. For some odd reason, many of them believe the more belts, buckles, flaps, pouches, zippers and buttons the bag has, the better the bag. Nonsense. It's just bad designing.
Spend the bucks on the Hadley. You'll never regret it.
A nice bag for sure, but the EM1 with grip and 12-40 is 140mm in width, depth and height. Internal width of the Hadley Pro is only specified as 80mm. Wouldn't that mean having to take the lens off every time I wanted to put the camera back in the bag?
When buying a shallow messenger style bag people should think carefully about what they might need to carry before thinking it will last a lifetime!
I don't have the 12-40, but have an E-M1 and it fits just fine in my Hadley Small with even a 100-300 attached (lens down in the center section). I still have room for my E-M5 II and 14-150, and a prime or two.
Since I got the Panny 100-400 I've had to keep it removed from the body since it is too tall with the E-M1 attached to fit lens down.
A far as price goes, after owning now 2 Billinghams, I'm sorry I wasted my money on 5 or 10 less expensive bags.
Is that with the vertical grip attached? If so, do the inserts just bend and deform the bag, making it deeper than the specified 80mm whilst the camera and grip are in it?
I'd quite like a less deep street shooting bag to supplement my 335, but don't want to go for a Hadley if it means I need to remove the camera grip to store the camera 'lens down' in it.
I can't speak to the E-M1with the grip since I never use one. My post above was concerning the E-M1 without the grip. The vertical dividers will compress somewhat to conform to the camera body if needed, but I'm not sure if it would accommodate the grip......at least in the Hadley Small.
I have E-M1 + grip. 12-40 f2.8, 40-150 f2.8 +MC-14, Sam 7.5mm & 45mm, cards, cables, filters etc and it all fits in Billingham Hadley Pro with room to spare. I do not want to carry more than 8-9 lbs.
