Talk Me Out of Panasonic G7

My thoughts...

I've picked that thing up and it seemed like a pretty nice camera. I have a GH2 which by now is a bit old tech, but I really liked using it. I'm not really sure that I buy the reliability issues that Olympus has though. I have an E-m10 and it seems very solid. I've used it a lot and haven't had a problem with it. That camera or the MkII version is going to be about what the G7 costs and with a bit more investment of a grip, I think that it'll be much like the G7 in terms of ergonomics (and might be a bit more compact even). If you're not concerned with the 4k video that the Panasonic gives you, I'd look at the Oly models as the IBIS that they have is a really nice thing to have... and they're just very well designed, well built cameras (as are the Panasonic). I'll also say that though I prefer the Panasonic interface, I don't find the Oly one too difficult as a lot of folks will say. It might take a little while to go through all of the menus to really set it up the way that you want but once you've done that, the quick menu takes care of the rest and works very well.

I'd try both the Oly and Panasonic options before you decide... If you're really worried about reliability with either system, I'd suggest getting some kind of 3 year extended warranty. I never have done that but I know folks who have and have had their cameras totally replaced when they dropped 'em. Nice piece of mind and those warranties really do cover just about everything (everything but fire and theft)...
