X-T1 Distance Scale Accuracy

I was testing the focal distance scale on the X-T1 with various lenses – 10-24, 56mm, 35mm – and what I found is that it doesn’t seem to give anything near an accurate reading when I compare it with what DOF should be based on DOF calculators online like this one:

Certainly the scale does reflect the increased depth of field on wider focal lengths at various apertures, but I don't think DOF is reflected anywhere near what it should be, particularly as you go farther out distance-wise.

Has anyone had the same experience using the distance scale? Do you have a ‘go-to’ source for DOF calculations on XF lenses? I know back in the old days, hyperfocal distance at different apertures would vary, even at the same focal length comparing one lens to another. I’m not sure if the same is true with modern-day DSLR and mirrorless lenses. Thoughts?
