1. E-Shutter

While e-shutter is silent and good for street photography, it has limitations such like rolling effect and high ISO banding.

Useful as a back up when the mechanical shutter fails to operate at 1/4000 consistently giving a black image as has happened with my one year and 3 day old Mk I. I am rather glad Olympus gave a 6 month warranty extension on registration or it would have been an expensive repair.

Reading around this does not seem to be an uncommon occurrence so I hope they have sorted this on the Mk II. Luckily my mini me version of the EM5 the Stylus 1S only goes to 1/2000 which still seems to work OK on the EM5. Possibly a stop too far for the mechanism in the m43 version.

I just do not feel the Olympus stuff is robust enough sometimes and I have been wary of getting an EM10 even before finding this shutter fault. Probably irrational but once you start feeling like that difficult to regain confidence. I wonder how long is the life of this kit that is being churned out nowadays. Even stainless steel goes rusty nowadays.
