balancing the bmpcc on a single handed gimbal

having a lot trouble balancing my bmpcc on single handed gimbal

I have an external battery attached to the top of it - it's not a very substantialbattery ( just a Sony l type fp550 attached with a plastic mounting plate)but this seems to make it top heavy and hard to balance.

since my gimbal (and others I've tried) block access to the bmpccinternal battery door and we all know how unbelievably short the bmpccinternal battery life is, it seems an external battery is necessary.

for a lens I was using kind of a medium weight one (a canon FD 17mm)
what I've found is this camera setup has a weird center of gravityand is as a result really hard to balance,.it seems all these new gimbals work great with GH4s and the like -I suppose that is a bigger market for the gimbal manufacturers(ie most people are doing weddings, commercials, music videos etcand don't want a bmpcc or a really cinematic look)
anyway, has anyone out there had any luck working with the bmpcc and gimbals (pilotfly h2, h1, beholder ds1, etc)

even without the external battery it still seems hard to balance andif one uses a very light small lens, then the overall is too light forthe newer gimbals.

any ideas would be appreciated
