Is it worth upgrading my body for focus points?

When I shoot Portraits with my T2i using my view finder I have a hard time getting focus on their eyes.

I use my EF 50mm f/1.4 USM. Mostly I shoot in f/2 for head shots. I found my surrounding focus pointers having hard time locking the focus. There for I'm limited to centre focus point. Then I have to re frame and take the picture. I know in this there is a great chance for loosing focus. I can simply use centre and crop later but I feel like loosing resolution and shallow depth of field as I have to go back (To get some free room for cropping.) Remember this lens is not usable below f/2.

There for I decided to upgrade my body to T6s / T6i. I know my T2i doesn't have cross type points other than centre. Will my upgrade make my self happy? Can I use the non centre focus points to lock the focus in the eyes.
May be I should switch to a camera with EVF?

Live view do not work for me as I don't carry a Tripod and these are not like a studio works. These are the type of photos I'm talking about
