E-M5 ii beginner thoughts and questions
1

I've been using GX7 for nearly two years, mainly used for street photography, I really enjoyed the focus speed, the silent shutter, and the tilty EVF. Had made lots of photos I like. However, it is not without issues, they are subjective, but I believe I'm not biased

1. E-Shutter

While e-shutter is silent and good for street photography, it has limitations such like rolling effect and high ISO banding.

2. Shutter Shock

I didn't know this before, even when I saw discussions on this forum, they are mainly around Olympus cameras since they've added 0s Anti Shock, until I tried E-M5 ii with this feature on, I realised how many photos taken with GX7 were blurry (on the other hand, if I didn't realise it was a problem, does it matter?)

3. RAW Colour

As I mentioned in my posts before, I'm taking random photos on my way home and sometimes taking photos of family, I'm not a pro photographer, thus don't have skill to make photos look like a pro, also I don't have much time PP my photos and I found RAW from GX7 hard to edit to my taste (I'll assume this is my lack of PP knowledge), however RAW from E-M5 ii makes me feel easier to edit.

After using e-m5 ii twice, I've got a few questions:

1. My Set

Is there any way to quickly switch between different My Set? I can assign them to iAUTO and ART, but I sometimes want to try ART mode. Also I can assign them to other Fn buttons but seems I'll lose it when I turn on Menu?

I initially thought My Set is on top of and not dependent on APSM modes, so whatever mode you are in, when you apply a MySet, you get all the settings applied, but still in the mode shown on the mode dail, however I'm wrong, I switch the mode to P and applied My Set 1 (which I saved when I was in A), and what, the mode changes to A although the dail says P?

2. EVF / LCD Switch

On GX7 I can set it to manually switch EVF and LCD, ALSO enable eye sensor, so when I'm not looking through EVF, both the EVF and LCD are off, and EVF's only turned on when I look at it. Even better, at the same time I can move my finger while watching through EVF to move the focus point. Can I do the same on E-M5 ii ? The best I can do so far, is to flip the LCD inward (I assume it's off when facing inside?), and use eye sensor so EVF is on only when I see it.

3. Ergonomics

This is an interesting story, when I visited the shop at Elizabeth Street (there are a few camera shops there), they had E-M5 ii with 12-40mm mounted, and Pen F with 17mm f1.8 mounted, the staff showed me both and let me try them, the first thing I noticed, is that my finger would touch the strap hinge when I hold it, E-M5 ii and Pen F are the same in this regard. Then I asked my wife to try, she's not into camera at all so I thought I could get some unbiased opinion, after holding the two she told me that the Pen F is better because it's lighter, so it's easier to hold, then the staff started to tell us that Pen F is a newer model with newer and better everything, and I said I'd thought about it and exited the shop. I told my wife that the Pen F has a much smaller and lighter lens and the one (12-40mm) on e-m5 ii was bigger and heavier comparatively, and she asked me: What? That can be changed? Her question made me wondered if they put 12-40mm on e-m5 ii on purpose?

4. Weather Sealing

I know it's a weather sealed body, but there is a small gap on the front of camera, just near the OM-D label, between the leather/plastic and the metal lens mount, I'm sure rain can get in from there, does it not matter?

5. Info Display

Is there a way to show level AND histgram on one screen while shooting, instead of using Info button to switch?

Thanks for reading the long post of questions, here are a few photos taken with E-M5 ii:

You must have a very interesting story to grow up in this way.

Country road, take me to bin.

Visiting Ripponlea garden

Red bridge in green leaves

So here are a few photos taken with GX7, on the streets:

What is lonely? It's when you look up the sky you see a string of birds but when you look around there is nobody.

I'm not drinking alone, someone is drinking with me.

I don't need umbrella.

Five dollars of romantic.

I'll keep taking photos and thanks again for reading my post of questions!
