One good way of learning is to buy a light meter. In this you have only to put in ISO, f number and shutter speed. It does not matter which size sensor you have in the camera. The f number being the ratio of aperture and focal length adjusts for the crop of the sensor which is why it is such a brilliant concept.

Forget about full frame. If you do not have a full frame camera the performance of full frame cameras is completely irrelevant. Just enjoy and learn the kit you have and leave competitive photography to others. Your lens is f2.8 as stated.
