C&C - help me with this please...
Apr 6, 2016
I'd like to be able to maximize the quality and detail of landscape images (with a lot of greenery) taken with my X-T1. Don't tell me to buy a -XTrans camera; I want to maximize what I can get with this one.
I shot this at ISO 200 using a small aperture, monopod, and time-delay. Lighting was less than ideal -- kind of flat. I underexposed a bit to avoid blowing the sky, but since the sky was bereft of detail, this may have been unnecessary. (What's the point of saving highlights that contain nothing but haze.
The raw file for the shot is at: https://db.tt/nkfEKSav
This image was straight out of camera, cropped to 16:9 in Irfanview, but no other changes. The Velvia simulation probably overdoes the colors, but it was pretty muddy looking before boosting Shadows and Color in-camera:

This image from the same RAW file was produced by Silkypix DSP7:

I'd be curious what others can produce using Silkypix or other RAW processors. My main purposes are:
1. Breathe some life into it without making it look over-processed.
2. Maximize detail while minimizing artificial-looking artifacts of sharpening.
3. As much as possible, avoid the "painterly effect" in foliage.
In short, I like to keep the scene within the bounds of what might naturally have occurred; I'm not into the obviously "constructed" look for a shot like this.
Any commentary or instruction on how to best achieve my goals is welcome. I also have C1 and LR, and have messed around in C1 with the image, but couldn't generate anything better than with SP. Please do not suggest buying more software or equipment, I want to know how to get the best from what I have. This one was shot with the 16-55mm zoom at 55mm. I suspect I could have gotten something slightly sharper with the 56mm, but wanted to see what the 16-55 could produce in this case.
Thanks in advance for your commentary/suggestions.
