Mountain Mona Lisa & Help Needed
5

Young Woman, Himachal Pradesh, India

This image was taken with an SD15, 17-70mm lens, at 70mm, ISO 800, f7.1, 1/125 sec.

I am very happy with this picture, as everything seems to fall into place: composition, color palette, background, and particularly the woman's expression, which is very Mona Lisa like.

I need some help though. This picture was taken in the shade. The problem is that the foveon sensor seems to struggle with subdued light. For instance, at 200% the integrity of the image begins to fall apart, and at 300% it really looks messy. Since I am interested in 11x17 prints, any image that has such integrity issues falls short, which is a great shame in this case, as everything else seems satisfactory.

Should I just consider it a limitation of the foveon sensor in subdued light (other shade pictures were even worse, and when the sun went behind the mountain the images really fell apart even at 100%). Is there anything about my settings that I can change to avoid such a problem? Is it because I used ISO 800, and perhaps should make ISO 400 as my upper limit?

Would the newer Sigmas necessarily do better?

Thanks!

-Charles
