Canon Ef-S 60mm macro or EF 100mm macro or 100mm macro w/IS

Hi all,

I'm looking into picking up a dedicated macro lens. I'd really like to get into doing some detailed macro shots, probably doing a fair bit of stacked focus shots. Currently using the lens focus to do the stacking, but i might pick up a cheap rail and use that.

I'm trying to decide if i should go with the 60mm ef-s lens or the 100mm ef lens. I'm using a t3i camera.

I guess i have two basic questions.

1. the main difference between the 60mm and 100mm lens is that i can get a lot closer to the subject since the minimum focus on the 60mm is almost 8 inches vs 1 inch on the 100mm. I'm thinking this would make a fairly dramatic difference in the level of detail i can get, no?

2. if i did go with the 100mm lens, and I am not shooting outdoors/handheld, is it worth paying the extra money to get the 100mm with IS?

thanks
