I used to carry a very small bag with 24mm/50mm/100mm macro. Reasoning was that UW/normal/tele zooms would still need a lens change. I found that I loved getting to know and pre-visualize composition. I did change lenses a lot, and found that sometimes I got caught in a fixed position. The advantages of cost, extra sharpness, speed, and compactness were really nice.

Now I would go 24mm IS, 35mm IS, and 100mm IS if doing the trio.

The 35mm f1.4/135mm f2 combo is wonderful but IS is missed if you want f/8-16. On a tripod it doesn't matter.

Also, lately I've used the 24-105mm IS and 35mm f/2 IS as a pair. It's fantastic as you only change lenses when the lights go down.
