Renting an X-Pro 2 for the Weekend--Your Thoughts on Rangefinders

Hello all,

I'm a very happy Fujifilm X-T1 owner.  I've got a good selection of lenses, a mix of mostly primes and two zooms, but I would consider myself primarily a prime shooter.

I did an online survey for BorrowLenses which yielded a nice coupon for gear rental, so I thought I'd give the X-Pro 2 a try, and see what rangefinder cameras are all about. It arrived yesterday and I've been doing some preliminary shots with all my glass for the past half day, or so, and plan on taking it out this weekend for more extensive tests.

I've read a lot about the X-Pro 2's tactful heft, but upon unboxing it, I couldn't help but feel that my X-T1 still feels a bit more solid.  Nonetheless, the camera impresses on build quality.  My favorite part of the camera so far is the new focal plane shutter.  The sound and tactile sensation give a lot of confidence.

The OVF puzzles me.  I'm still trying to figure out the draw of the rangefinder-style camera.  Is it's only real strong use for street shooting?  I find the parallax differences in both framing and focus (particularly focusing very close subjects) to be frustrating at times.  Does the rangefinder really only shine with primes in the 35mm to 18mm range?  I would say that it's very useable with the 56mm, but I often find that with portraits, accurate framing is pretty critical and even at this focal length, I find the parallax slightly frustrating.  Curious to hear everyone's thoughts on this.

Either way, I'm definitely going to wait and see what the X-T1's successor shapes out to be.  I've got my fingers crossed for 4k video and a 4k EVF.
