On the LCD, you can just swipe youf finger from top to bottom (center), then to the left, in one movement. That's a shortcut for deleting a picture. There are other shortcut like that you might find useful, you can check them out in the manual (they are customizable).

Also, not very well known, but you can keep the Info button pressed, in order to brighten the LCD without going through the menu. It's great on bright sunny days. Next time you power on the camera, the LCD brightness goes back to normal.
