Fuji X-M1 travel lens
1

Hi

I bought the Fuji X-M1 as an entry into the world of Fuji optics but so far I haven't had a need to "upgrade" from the kit zoom-lens (16-50mm f3.5-5.6).

However, I'm planning a vacation to Rome with my fiancée this summer and I'd like to capture some images for our photobook. I do find myself struggling in low-light situations, which makes me consider getting a faster lens.

I'm leaning towards getting a prime, and keep the kit lens for those situations which require some zoom.

I've been looking at the following:
23mm F1.4
35mm F2.0/F1.4

I'm leaning towards the 23mm due to the field of view, but 23mm creates some distortion which isn't present at 35mm. It's a tiny bit shorter than my current kit lens, but bigger and heavier than 35mm. It's not cheap.

35mm is alot tighter than 23mm, but is smaller. Relatively "cheap". Not sure what I feel about the field of view. It's narrower, but it's got a more natural perspective.

27mm would be a very lightweight and "pocket-friendly" lens, but the field of view is too similar to the 35mm to my eyes, so I havent really considered it much.

Any help picking a walk-around lens would be appreciated. Maybe I'm missing something important when considering a prime over a zoom.
