very nice, I could never get that quality with my 18-55. They are OK I guess, but any time I compare it with the 30mm it's a clear difference.
Sorry your copy may not be one of the better ones. I also have other very sharp lenses to compare to and it's quite sharp or sharp enough instead of very sharp. From reading about 30mm, that must have set quite a high standard for you.
What other very sharp lenses do you mean?
It is a very capable lens, and I consider mine as good copy (it is the latest version), and I was really surprised of how fast the AF on the NX1 was, but both my 16-50pz/12-24/30/45 are sharper (for the primes) or mostly sharper (for the zooms, I mean I am not sure for every mm), it is a good lens to have, just after a couple of other lenses, it is very difficult to find a reason to use it again (plus the 16-50 range of pz is more useful for a compact zoom, the 16 instead of 18 makes all the difference).
I am very impressed how good the cheap macro tube extensions work, for 20-30$ is just a minimum "investment". I even used them on a payed video job, we had a set of Zeiss and a few Leica lenses (plus some other EF, never used them) but no macro lens, and just happened to have the extension on my NX1 bag, we used them for a "lips only" and an "eyes only" shots. (I am mentioning this in case someone wants to explore the macro world and do not want to spend a lot of money for a dedicated such lens).
Compared to FL 55mm f1.2 stopped down to f4 or f5.6, which is crazy sharp. And 18.5mm f1.8 at f2.8 in Nikon 1, which is also very very sharp, probably comparable to NX 30mm.
Yes I have extension tube set for Nikon 1 system and it works great for macro.
At first I wished I had 16-50pz instead of 18-55 but I feel I can live with 18-55. For wide I have Rokinon 12mm on order to round up my wide, portrait NX system. For travel, light, compact, tele purpose I like Nikon 1 system.
If you have Nikon 1 for ultra compact and the such, the 18-55 is a good all arounder, more traditional shape and controls than the pz, and in no way it is a bad lens. The 12 is a very good lens too, I just went for the 12-24 and 10mm, so I couldn't verify buying that too.
Keep photographing!
