Hey guys, I just purchased a Promaster CF 8 GB memory card for my Nikon D2X. Now the manual only recomends the San Disk and the Lexar, but remember, that manual was written about 8 years ago. Maybe they didn't have the "Promaster" back then. Can anyone tell me if that flash drive is OK to use with the D2X. Nikon makes a big point about using what they recomend in the manual; that if you don't use what's recomended, the apocolypse could begin. I don't want to mess up my camera.

Thanks.

Nikon test their cameras against a number of manufacturers but there is no way they can test against every manufacturer.

They may well work perfectly OK.

I did a search for you on DPReview and came up with the following link

I would not worry about it unless you start to have trouble with it, all manufactures will recommend something that's because they officially tested the product with it. (Speed of them may vary)
Most all are made to a specific standard of the industry so compatibility issues are actually rare the one area that may cause issue is when you try to use a capacity larger in the old days because at the time those large cards were not around and firmware in the product had a good chance of not supporting that capacity.

I strongly dislike promaster products. While I haven't used their CF cards, I did use their batteries. They died 6 months after purchase. Both of them almost within a week of each other. Just wouldn't hold a charge anymore. Found out on a shoot one day. Luckily I had a Nikon one with me too. 2 years later and my Nikon battery is still good. So while I might use off brand on certain things, I'm going to avoid it on the important stuff.

I usually don't use off brand products but have been using a Promaster 32GB CF for years. Around 80,000 images and hundreds of fromats. nary a glitch,

With a name like that, it sure must be a good card!

Of course I fail to understand, why tried and tested cards were not the first choice? Aren't we talking very few cents in price difference, if there's any at all?
