Sooo...I returned the A58 I purchased. Didn't feel comfortable in my hand, image quality wasn't as good as I expected, etc etc. I've also gotten really used to sending a picture to my wife or others by transferring quickly to my phone, and the A58 has no wifi capability. The IBIS works well though, I was using a 300mm zoom at 1/50th of a second, and upon close inspection you might notice some softness but it really made a huge difference. I previously had a Sony A37 which was a little different body size/shape, I'm debating if I want to go back to this or move on, or just buy a few more lenses for my Samsung and invest deeper into the vanishing system that is NX. The wifi stuff is something I've really become accustomed to.
Back to square one.
Just buy a used 50-200 and see from there, maybe another one in the summer, the "investment" is just minimal, amd it is difficult to abandon the NX UI (the best in the industry right now), and for photos, I wouldn't change my NX300 for anything right now, but I had to buy the NX500 because I do a lot of video, and honestly, NX300 video sucks! The bitrate and coding needa hacking! At least you can erase the time limit, which is ideal for keepimg family memories.
Yes, buy the 50-200 OIS III, actually I did, it is a beast for the money. supersharp at 50mm makes a good crop lens, very sharp at 100, good at 130, at 200 sharp in center, something like this.
And Optical image stabilisation , it is way better than old glass.
Some people are not so happy with it it seems, but it is my favourite.
I would buy it new, so what if NX-mount is uncertain, good for second hand market in the future, and btw, all mounts are uncertain because phone photography rules.
Exactly, Samsung is king of user interface, and you have wifi, Amoled-display.. rock on.
I too used to think "oh boy! 'Samsung is king of user interface, and you have Wi-Fi, Amoled display, rock on...' " too....until I picked up a few Panasonic Micro Four Thirds bodies and saw the awesome control they offer with W-Fi and how great the touch user interface is...8 programmable buttons on my GX8 (!) plus 4 programmable soft buttons on touch screen...come on! Talk about king of user interface.
For my kind of use, Samsung and Panasonic were closer to my needs. Certainly Pana goes the right way(unlike Sony, par example), but GX8 is a new camera, while in NX1-which is an old camera- you can customize just about everything, and in the mid-time, we are able to customize further with the execution of small programs!
