Overall from the two hours I got to spend with it, the K-1 is an incredible camera. It's on par with the top of the line Canons or Nikons. Seriously I now will get myself one, a great companion to my 645Z.

As an amateur, I do all sorts of photography: airshows, motor sports, wildlife including birds in flight, studio portraiture, etc. I can't afford the best possible system for any one of these, and certainly not the best systems for all of them!

The slow evolution of the Pentax FF system over the last year(s) has given me the "opportunity" of placing an expensive bet: that, taking into account the indication that Ricoh appears to be getting its act together about FF, the Pentax FF range will evolve to be sufficiently comprehensive to cover my requirements, even if it is not the best I could fantasise about.

My bet was that if I invested heavily in the Pentax FF range, and capitalised on my prior K-mount investment, even before there were all the necessary announcements, specifications, reviews and other feedback, I would have a good system for 2016 and at least the next 5 years. A high risk, potentially high reward bet! So I sold some other equipment, steadily saved my money, and pre-ordered everything in sight.

This thread suggests to me that this was a good bet! (I used the D FA 150-450mm lens successfully all last summer, so I already had some confidence in the new range).

I'm not buying a K-1 as an alternative to other FF cameras. I'm buying this Pentax FF system as an alternative to other (FF or otherwise) systems. The K-1 is "simply" one of the components, (obviously an essential one!), in that system, and over the next 5 years or so will probably be replaced without sentiment. Probably the lenses won't be replaced.

Interesting, as I am deciding whether or not to come back to Pentax.  You have no concern for the lack of third party support?  I guess if Pentax covers your needs with current lens line up then there's no concern.
