If you don't give information to the printer then the printer uses automatic settings. You may or may not be happy with the results. If automatic settings meet your needs, great. The print may look good however it may not exactly match the image on your screen.

For more accurate printing from Costco or other places, download a printer profile from them. This would be the profile for the printer at a specific location/ specific printer. This allows you to adjust the image for printing, probably for only one printer. You can use this profile in Photoshop and some other programs.

Costco details are at http://www.drycreekphoto.com/icc/

I found this complicated, it took a while to understand the procedure.

Thanks Bernie. I've given up on Costco after visiting a different one where I had them process a few test prints and the results were not impressive. For anything 13x19 and smaller, my Canon Pro 100 does a outstanding job, but for the 20x30 and up, I'll stick with Adorama or Nations. I recently had some photo books done by Shutterfly (since I had a 40% off coupon) and am very impressed with the quality and color accuracy.

Lens update: I ordered the Pentax 22177 smc DA 50mm F1.8 Lens and looking forward to using this apparent little gem.
