Thanks. I appreciate your snaps threads and how you encourage newcomers.

I suppose what's serious or not or casual snaps is relative to each of us as individuals from our own experiences.

Sure, I know what "getting serious" is like for me (as described in my previous post).

I didn't want to make a big deal out of it for you.

No no, the question comes up often enough that it's worth putting some effort into an answer. Some of this will go into the FAQ if they ever let me edit again.

You and I probably should buy one of the more up-to-date Rebels (like the T6i/T6s (750D/760D) cameras if you haven't already).

Yeah, na, not gunna happen.   Once I bought the 60D I never touched the 450D again, except to reassure it that I still loved it... until I sold it.

Was the last Rebel you owned a Canon 450D?

Last year I got a 400D in a bundle with some lenses I wanted to play with. My GF has that now. Gee things were basic in those days, the ISO wasn't displayed on the monitor, you had to go into the settings to see what it was!

Beyond the Canon 70D, that Canon 80D looks interesting; that's got my attention also.

Damn! It has everything I really wanted the 7D II for (EC in M with Auto-ISO, and f/8 AF), but AFs at f/8 with more points over a wider area of the viewfinder. It may well have been a better choice for me as it can replace the 60D while doing a lot of what the 7D II can. Now that I'm used to the ergonomics (particularly the multi-controller and AF area selection lever) I probably wouldn't want to give it up. Don't tell me I could replace the 60D with an 80D...

All of this is fun, looking at these new toys. Meanwhile we keep snapping.

Me? No, I don't do snapping.

There's lots to learn and new things to explore even with the equipment we have and even if we have been taking pictures for many years.

Sure is. Trick is not to lose sight of the fundamentals I guess.
