S120 does not need a successor, it is that good.
This line of cameras S90/S95/S100 is so successful that there is not much Canon can improve without sacrificing something (weight, size, price, etc).
You're joking, right?
If the S-series was so successful, Canon wouldn't just stopped it as they did. They would find something very small to improve every year or so, so we can keep feeding them our money for that precious upgrade. The problem is, after RX100 became popular, the public no longer desired just a small and capable camera. The public desired an 1" small and capable camera.
Plus, unless I'm very much mistaken, the S120 is already out of production.
After I've made the jump to the G9X, I haven't touched the S120, the difference is that great. At first I thought I'd keep the old camera to use it here and there, but now I don't see the point. I see you have the G7X, so you should understand my point.
Actually I am not joking. Whatever Canon does or "public" wants have nothing to do with what I need (most of the time).
My S100 is small and powerful. G7x is too big and heavy in comparison. I bought it because of 1" sensor that is great to have in low light underwater. It sits in my drawer waiting to go diving while S100 is always with me. I am almost sorry I bought it, except it is good to have an extra set up on dive vacations.
As you may notice my equipment is pretty old. It is that way because I do not see any practical advantage in upgrading it. UPGRADES WILL NOT HELP ME TO SELL MORE PICTURES. My photographic and business skills will.
