Panasonic G7 4K photo question

Hi

I am chewing over getting a G7 pretty much strictly for the 4K photo mode but can't work out whether the viewfinder capabilities would actually work the way I need.

The idea is to use it with my Canon 400 f5.6 using a basic adapter, i.e. no AF or aperture control, for the purpose of photographing birds/animals for reference material for painting/drawing. What I am hoping is that I can focus accurately through the viewfinder alone and that once I have pressed the shutter button I will still be able to see and track the target bird.

I am using a 70D in video mode but have difficulty a. following the target as it moves (I find it much easier to track through a view finder but obviously this doesn't work in video mode on a Canon) and b. I wear reading glasses and even wearing them I cannot see the screen well enough to ensure focus is correct.Does the G7 have a magnify mode that works within the viewfinder so that I can zoom in to check focus?

I have had reasonable success with the 70D using high shutter speeds, even using the digital zoom when the target is close enough, but the video output from the Panasonic cameras, from what I have read, appears to be significantly better than Canon's, even at 1080

Any advice or thoughts would be appreciated

cheers Paul
