Unimpressed with unimpressive lens....K-1 coupled with pentax K-50mm 1:2

You are right that a major interest for prosumer enthusiasts is the compatibility with ''legacy lenses''
....I came back to Pentax for this very reason....I used Sony A77 for several years and the Minolta A-mount lenses are awesome...hence...Sony buying Minolta out...but Minolta changed mounts several times ...limiting how far back one could go....as did Nikon and Canon...etc. (noting most lens mount adaptors detract from the image quality)
PENTAX I can shoot with lenses designed for the original SLR cameras from the early/mid 1950's THESE lenses have a special character all of their own and are still A+ quality...hence...the reason behind Ricoh buying Pentax. (noting an adaptor is needed for the earliest M42 mount lenses...but a flush with body adaptor is available..it works)
I think no matter which camera you used the results would have been unsatisfactory using this Pentax 50mm f2, it's a 12dollar lens. THE lens doesn't rate with Pentax users partly because there were several faster options about at the same time but this isn't the lens I would use to ''test out'' on the new K-1. It rates with the stock lens any camera maker puts out with their standard camera these days.. like Pentax 16-55 stock lens....noting quality in this area is improving rapidly....there really might be a day when our legacy lenses aren't as good as a ''new technology'' lens....not yet I think. Perhaps Dpreview would like to do a comparative....
How about a test with a quality legacy lens...I mean that's what we're interested in.
Pentax-A 50mm 1:1.2 would have been a better choice. The FA 35mm f2. Or the FA 77mm f1.8 or...a dozen others. Go to Pentax forum and select a few 10's(rating) and even a few of the thousands of third party lenses...that are rated 9 or 10. THE Pentax M 50mm f1:2 is rated an 8 and a bit...which is pretty generous as it scores highly for being junk shop cheap.....a good Pentax legacy lens will set you back for 500-2000dollars. Though useful lenses start at around 100dollars....the amazing 35mm f3.5 you can get for 60-70bucks....the hardest thing for me is deciding which lenses I need to sell off to buy the K-1. Um I don't own the 50mm f2.
