Well, I live outside of the EU, so not so sure about what the status is (it was bought in EU), but I know for a fact that local Samsung services flat out refuse to service Samsung smartphones with custom ROMs (cyanogenmod and similar).

I'm afraid they would say the same for a camera with a hacked firmware (or the service they send it to). If I really needed something from hacking firmware I might risk it, but right now I'm certain I don't want to brick my camera (as I don't have the files needed for cold flashing the device myself as described in the service manual).

I wanted an easy way to retrieve the files from tethered camera from Linux and this enabled that. I might like having unlimited recording time, but that should be accessible from the service menu I'm trying to access so no fw hacking needed.

Honestly, if I upgrade my phone to marshmallow I will probably need to examine the smartphone app as I use it a lot and it doesn't work properly in newer android releases.
