Re: Samsung to discontinue its camera sector and focus on appliances and smartphones

Just speculation, last time I mentioned this here it got deleted for some reason, so try stating it more discretely:

Last Samsung NX1 Firmware update:

Firmware File (Firmware) ver.1.40 - All OS (MULTI LANGUAGE, 294.13 MB) ?

Aug 21, 2015

Look at the 2 dates. Are they related that last firmware update was before the news story? Who knows (Samsung does).

I'd call speculation (as all these discussion threads are until Samsung makes a definitive announcement or move).

The last NX firmware update (on anything NX related) was on the 50-200mm III (apparently to work better with the last firmware of the NX1 and NX500).

Samsung 50-200mm F4-5.6 OIS III v1.11

Date: October 8, 2015

50-200mm-III_iFn(i2)
This is the latest LENS firmware package.
To maximize improved firmware performance, body firmware should be the latest version.

[v1.11]
- Improved AF to work during zooming (only for NX1, NX500)
* Updating the camera as NX1 v1.40, NX500 v1.11

That date is four months since the last firmware update of any kind for an NX device (which is admittedly a large gap), but it was past the layoff announcement.  There's probably still at least one programmer left hacking on the NX code.
