Grainy photos issue

I recently got the Canon 760D and I was out taking some photos for thr first time with it just before sunset. When I got home and looked through the pictures I had taken, they all seemed to be very grainy which I was pretty disappointed about.

I previously had a very old Nikon D50 as my SLR and I never really had any issue with grainy photos and was wondering if it might be the Canon camera that's causing the grain or even the lens I was using which was the Canon EF/S 10mm - 18mm

The settings I was using at the time was 1/30sec  f5.6  640 ISO

Ive attached a small crop of the image at 100% which shows the grain.
