New T4i owner, looking for a good 'all around' setup

Hello all!

A little background first & foremost: about 10 years ago I picked up a Nikon D50 with the 18-55 kit lense. I never could get the hang of it, all of my photos ended up pretty bland. I blame that on my ability, but i have heard that the sensor in it was older? Anyway - moving ahead:

I snagged a good deal on a T4i with a 18-55 stm lense as well as a 75-300 non-stm without image stabilization.

My primary purposes for the camera: action photos in my fitness facility, car shows, family photos, I'd like to get into some nature landscape photography as well. I have never been much of a video guy but will use it for this if it proves to be something I like.

I've received a few suggestions of lenses that people thought would fit my needs: 10-18, and a good STM IS'd version of a super-zoom.

A few questions: I understand the STM is primarily a benefit when shooting video as it reduces noise, correct? But does it make any difference in the photo quality? I imagine i'd be using my tripod on the longer shots so is the image stabilization a necessity?

Since I assume the majority of you here are very skilled in photography, what would be your recommendation for a few all-around lenses that aren't going to destroy the bank?

Thank you & fantastic community you have here!
