Hello all,

I currently shoot a d610 and will be sending it into Nikon for a focus adjustment (back focusing severely with most of my lenses some beyond adjustment.) This got me thinking about picking up a second body.

My uses are as follows

Strobe work, macro, street, event. I do almost no landscape work but do often use wide angle lenses creatively for other images.

I have only fx lenses;

20 1.8g,

24-120 f/4,

28 1.8g,

28-105mm 2.8d,

60mm 1.8g,

85mm 1.8g,

105mm 2.8g,

105mm 2.8d,

180mm 2.8d.

I shoot mostly strobe work at f/8-16 and ambient work at f2.8 and below

Iso range of 100-400 for 90% of my images.

I am not against having a second d610, but I am quite tempted by the d800 and d750. I will be buying used and would be looking to spend no more than 1300

The resolution of the d800 is not a factor, but the button layout is an advantage to me, that said the tilt screen and weight of the d750 is attractive but I am not sure it is a significant enough improvement over the d610 to justify the higher cost.

I am also concerned about focus accuracy with the d800, I imagine the d750 is much more reliable in that department.

Opinions? suggestions?

Thanks

If you are glad with D610 I cannot see a reason to get another camera model... the ultimate back-up is an exact replication of the main system.

OTH if there is any feature you do not like on your current camera choice, then it is an opportunity to try solve it, but we would need to know more from you.

Personally I have a D810 as my single generalist camera. Plenty glad with it. I do not need any other camera... so far... ;-)

Regards,

D700 comes to mind based on your requirements and for its better handling.

I'd recommend the D800. No, it may not focus as quickly as a D750 but IMHO it's probably one of the best values on the used market at present. I recently picked up a clean low shutter click model below your 1300.00 limit.

If you do select a D800 or D750 I'd be curious to see if either of those cameras becomes your primary body over your D610.

The D750 button layout and body size is somewhat similar to the D610. It's a great all-around camera for anything you throw at it. I haven't really touched my D610 since I picked one up, because I know I can trust it regardless of the situation. The improvements don't seem as big as you'd expect, but the D750 simply gets out of your way and lets you take pictures. The D610 is awesome of course, but I trust it less.

The D800 (besides megapixels) doesn't have some of the nice things the D750 has, such as -3EV AF, built in wifi, tilt screen, light body, fast FPS, highlight-weighed metering (I love this feature), great high ISO performance, U1, U2 memory settings (on the outside of the camera), better video features, etc. The only thing IMO where the D800 is better is having more megapixels, 1/8000s and 1/250s flash sync speed. If those are things you need, the D750 doesn't have them. Otherwise the D750 is really great... the perfect event camera.

Owning the D810 my perfect choice for a second body was the D7200 which provided a 24MP DX image area file as compared to the D810 at 15.3MP (or the D610's 10.3MP image area in DX mode).

Controls and layout of the D7200 is nearly identical to that of the D610 and you can continue to use SD cards with both your cameras

Have a d800 and love it. Do you already have large, fast CF cards? It has dual slots but one is CF. Just something to consider. I believe the d750 has dual SD slots.

To be different to the others., I would recommend the D500... Even though it's only a DX.. It gives a little new added dimension. I have a DX solöely to use to give an extra reach for the FX lenses. making my 150-600 to (I beleive os 240 to 900).... For this reason I don't use a lens extender... Also with high ISO and 10fps...

Buy a D810 to supplement the D610

Sell the D610

Buy a D4s or D750

If you chose the D750 over the D4s, sometime around the end of April sell the D750

Buy a D500
