Upgrading K50 Firmware, card reader kaput.

Hi,

I want to upgrade the firmware on my K50. Unfortunately my computer's built-in card-reader has stopped working, and so far I am struggling with fixing it as the menu is in French and my understanding of that language does not extend to computer terminology.

According to the Pentax (well, Ricoh really) site I can do the update by connecting the K50 to the machine by USB cable (but that's all it says. My attempts haven't worked.

What I did was:

- download the upgrade

- as no menu or anything is accessable on the K50 I copied the upgrade to it directly i.e. not to the DCIM folder where the photos are stored.

- back in the menu, the firmware is still 1.00 (fair enough) but there is no option shown for doing an update.

- also tried taking the card out and reinserting it (I thought this may help it to recognise etc. because the instructions were 'insert card' regardless of how the update got there) but still nothing.

I've no idea what I am doing wrong

please can you help

regards

Pete
