I've been a Canon shooter for a long time, though I do have Canon and other DSLR brands (Sony, Pentax, Nikon), of which I'm happy with most all.

Now that said, Canon needs to put a pair of glasses in every PowerShot box.

I don't follow you.

Along with my SLR's, I also have a couple of Canon point and shoot cameras. An S90, SX40HS, a G16, and a little SX510HS.

BUT...what blows ALL of my Canon collection away for a clean, low noise, very nice sharpness, is an "old" (2005) recently pulled out of a drawer, Sony, DSC-W5 camera. And if I'm not mistaken, the W5 is actually a step down (and obviously MUCH older) from at least two of the above Canons. I haven't kept up with the Sony point and shoot cameras, but if the newer ones are like the old W5, Canon has a long way to go to catch up. And I'm not talking $700 to $1200 point and shoot cameras..! I'm talking mid-priced at best, same class as the old DSC-W5 Sony. Too bad the oddball memory isn't available any longer..!

Your post is all over the place.  You start with a header asking "why can't Canon...".  Can't what?  You never finish the question.  Then you throw out something about putting a pair of glasses in the box w/o elaborating on that point.  Finally you go on to compare a 2005 camera to newer cameras, w/o posting any samples to back up your argument.
