Many have tried to lessen or turn off to no avail.  You can grab the camera and feel that there is some type of floating sub frame in there.  When it powers up, it starts all the gizmos whirring that make the OIS work so well.

But it will be interesting I suppose to hear what they say if you ever get an answer.  Good luck with that.
