Re: Canon SX60hs vs Canon SX710hs

Personally, I can't live without the tilt/swivel LCD screen (like my SX40, and like the SX60 has) for capturing different perspectives, especially outdoors (which is where these cameras function best anyway).

I do a lot of my shooting with the camera at waist height, looking down with the screen flipped up. And, being quite short, I would have missed out on a lot of shots if I couldn't flip the screen facing down to the ground and shot with the camera way over my head. Heck, even the fact that the camera sits by itself on a table and I can flip the screen up to me to preview shots while sitting at a cafe or something is incredibly convenient. A flexible screen angle can also make daylight shooting easier ... not that daylight is your strongest enemy in Iceland, though.

The other thing that you might appreciate, especially with all those landscape photos you're going to want to capture in Iceland, is that the range of the SX60 starts at 21mm equivalent, which is wider than most super zooms, and wider than the 25 of the SX710.

As others here have said, people here are fairly critical of the SX60 compared to the SX50 (and at times, even the old SX40!), but many people who aren't familiar with the older models don't seem as critical. For hand held zooming, the large, boxy shape is actually convenient, and the SX60 is definitely ergonomically pleasing. So were I choosing between those two models only, those are my reasons for picking the SX60 over the SX710.

Edited to add: I'm also (over!)due for a new camera, which I was SURE was going to be the SX60, and still might be... but now truth be told, I'm leaning towards the Nikon P900. So there may be some other camera besides those two that would work for you. But my points above still stand: I would 100% choose the SX60 over the SX710, in a head-to-head battle, no question.
