Small street shooting kit?

Hey all, I'm coming from a long time with Nikon gear, don't know much about the Canon but I'm intrigued by the new STM lenses. I have recently taken up street photography, it's challenging but educational. What's more challenging is I travel almost exclusively by bicycle so I'm looking for a super light-weight setup. It should also be cheap because it'll be banged around and at risk for theft.

So my issues - I love my D7000 and fast lenses but they're too heavy to haul everywhere with me. I plan to keep them though. I bike with a tiny D60 which is a beginner camera, but good enough and really cheap (10mp circa 2008, I guess roughly like an XTi). But Nikon doesn't feel like making good, cheap prime lenses for crop cameras. The Canon 24, 10-22 and 40 STM's just seem ideal for this setup.

So can I put together a small kit for around $600? I think the Sl1 will blow my budget so would I be unhappy with a T2i or T3i? I think either would be an upgrade from the old D60 although it does take fine photos with a the right lens.

My feeling is since I'm only in good light and stopped down the camera doesn't matter too much. But there must be a 'sweet spot' of camera size, performance and price I don't know about. I'm open to any suggestions really, or if it's even worth trying out this STM experiment.

Thank you,

Greg
