Hey guys,
I am currently looking to purchase the E-M10 MK 2 with triple lens kit which includes the lovely 45mm f/1.8 for $1,200 Australian. However, I have come across a used E-M5 in mint condition which includes the panny 20mm f/1.7, the Oly 12-50mm F3.5-6.3 weather sealed lens, spare batteries and an extra charger for $650 Australian.
I am a novice and have been teaching myself a lot about photography over the last few months in anticipation of purchasing a more complex system. I want to use the camera for my travels and am a fan of the outdoors. I will be learning how to use both cameras from scratch and have never owned a sophisticated system.
Any recommendations would be most welcome.
All I can tell you is the em10 ii is a fabulous upgrade to the em-5, it has everything you need for so many different shooting situations and the af has been improved along with the evf and lcd. Honestly, I would spend the money on the em10 ii, its outstanding.
I'll second that. If I was starting fresh I'd go for the E-M10 II, and that the kit you're looking includes the 2 kit lenses and the 45mm f1.8 (nice for portraits, among other things) is icing on the cake. This gives you a great platform to learn on, doesn't have possible issues with shutter shock (the E-M5 did; Olympus fixed this in the E-M10) and offers decent image stabilized video as well. It also comes with the Olympus 1 year warranty, no minor thing.
I had a canon SL1 with the 70-200 L lens. I was looking to upgrade but stay light and decided to sell my Canon gear and jump into M4/3 since I like to photograph birds. (I had the original Oly OMI when it was released and loved it)I purchased the EM10 MK II, the 75-300 Lens and the 14-150 lens. I loved the setup, but was getting noticeable white pixels in my images, even after pixel mapping, so I returned the camera and bought another EM10 MKII. I liked many things about it, but it was difficult to get the SD card in and out and the battery cover came off while doing that. I was gentle with it, though, and expected to use it for a long time. After a few days, though, the SD card would not seat, it just kept springing up. I tried, my friends tried. I tried another SD card, nothing worked. I returned the camera and ordered an EM5 MKII, which I expect to have a little better build.
