Re: GH4 video judder/strobing - a solution

I am curious if you found out what the issue was since creating this thread?
Yes, it's 3:2 pulldown on 60Hz LCD displays. Many LCD monitors seem fixed at 60Hz, while many TV LCDs are optimised to display (in Europe) 25fps (the display switching at 50Hz).
On LCD TVs if I play 25fps footage, it is displayed smoothly, on computer LCD monitors it judders. As I think many people will be primarily be viewing and editing on computer LCD monitors (running at 60Hz) this as far as I tell, is the issue.
One thing that comes to my mind is that the video player you were using (and that the camera itself is using) doesn't play 24 fps video well on a 60Hz monitor. 24 is not a factor of 60, unlike 30, which would explain why 30 fps video appeared a lot smoother.
Yes that's it! - I came to that conclusion in the replies I've given here.
Even the GH4 rear monitor and EVF runs at 30 or 60Hz - and judders! - how much more do we need to pay for Panasonic to give us a variable refresh rate LCD?
I've been asking in another thread of anyone has a 4K monitor that can run at 48Hz (for 24fps) and 50Hz (for 25fps) - I believe some can. Evidently the graphics card also needs to be switchable as well - not fixed at 60Hz.
You said that the 24 fps footage from other gear was fine, but it wasn't clear if everything else was the same (computer, player, codec).
..not sure I did, 24fps judders also - and will need a 48Hz display.
In any case I'm pretty much set on 25fps now - for European broadcast, so needing a 4K monitor that can refresh at 50Hz, any recommendations? (and I do want a monitor rather than a TV).
