Hey look, it's now changed to "Canon Rebel (EOS 300D-760D) Talk".
I was close with my first suggestion
That's great!
means the 1200d no longer has a place.
good riddance.
What about the 100D?
It desperately needs an update. Wouldn't suggest buying one today given the internal tech is just too outdated. Actually it was already dated at launch.
I agree that the 100d as a series would be a good entry point in the Canon EF world.
Relatively small, easy to use, good affordable lenses-accessoires (10-18mm 24mm F2.8) would be the key selling points.
Relatively small??? its the smallest DSLR in the world...and smaller than some m43
No it isn't once you mount a lens. With the 18-55mm it's larger then the competing Nikon since they use smaller collapsible zooms.
OK i should have said worlds smallest body... but its IS much smaller when you mount a lens on it ..as many buy this camera to use it with the canon 24mm and the 40mm STM pancake lense on..i did...i dont think nikon do a pancake......a family member has a Nikon 3300 which i have handled and we found the 100D with the 24mm stm on fitted in a jacket pocket better than body only for the 3300 here
It does need a better sensor, AF system, Battery, swivelscreen, processor (1080p 60fps), internal timelapse, WiFi and it needs it now.
i have had no problems with the af....
It's a limited system with just 1 crosstype. Focus and recompose is a dinosaur technique these days and it needs improvements in that regard in order to be competitive.
I am i bit lost ...please fill me in.. when using a OVF (or EVF)what faster method is there than focus recompose ?? i only ever use 1 focus point with a static scene...the center one if plenty DOF or i flick to a point that more or less in the correct place....if something is moving and i can track it i still use center point or flick all points on if i think i cannot ....
All mirrorless can focus with great accuracy across the whole frame. Nikon D5200 has 39-af points from which 9 are crosstype and it costs 400 bucks at the moment.
you are comparing a upper entry level camera with a entry level camera which is what the 100D is....the 100D is pitched against the Nikon 3300
9 all crosstype would be bare minimum while the 19 point system found in the 70d and current rebels would be excellent. The 80d will likely get the 7d mk2 system to differentiate itself above the rebels. Or Canon makes a new middle road system. who knows.
Camera Labs test of the 100D vs the 3300 gave the 100D having a little better AF and better handling and a touch screen but the nikon has better IQ but its seams the 100D is more than good enough for its main rival .. i cut and past the somery
In terms of really significant differences, you could sum it up by saying that the EOS SL1 / 100D is more compact and offers better handling and AF performance, especially for movies. Against that, the D3300 counters with better image quality and noise performance. In the end its about deciding which of those factors is most important to you. One final factor that may also influence your decision is price. At the time of writing the Nikon D3300 was around 25 percent more expensive than the Canon EOS SL1 / 100D, with the latter enjoying more discounting due to its older age.
wifi will be nice.. tilt screen if it can be had with no size penalty to the screen or body or losing any buttons
That means only up and down since articulation to the side will make the body wider due to the hinge. This is fine since many mirrorless share this design trade-0ff.
yes that was what i was thinking just tilt as 90% of the time thats all you need and keeps it compact
They can keep the body more or less the same perhaps a deeper grip like the Nikon D5500 which could also house the bigger battery. Better battery life would be a key advantage over mirrorless options. Giving it limited juice just destroys one key advantage of Dslr's.
the grip is surprisingly good...most or not going to get the 100D for a 70-200F2.8
It's the smallest Dslr grip bar none. For anyone not having baby hands using such a lens = big challenge.
well yes i would hope the worlds smallest DSLR body will have the smallest grip...or it won't be the world smallest DSLR body.. many many small mirrorless rangefinder style cameras have much less pronounced grips than the 100D.and most dont have a problem ..i dont find it a challenge and i dont have baby hands just average
The current 24mp Canon sensor is not the best but it is good enough for this place in the market.
AF system is tough choice between 2 existing systems. 9 all crosstype for affordability and saving the point in buying the 750d/760d. Or the 19 all crosstype for longevity. You can already get the 39 9-crosstype af module in a D5200 for cheap these days. Just a matter of time till they launch a D3500 with that module.
The other points are pretty straight forward. Canon has them for years now with good implementation too.
i think canon should do 2 replacements...one as this one, which is just most the bits pinched from the latest rebel so thats probably the 760/750D if it comes out soon..
and do a 100Dpro with some weather sealing the best APS-c sensor canon do, probably from the 80D very good AF, a pentaprism inplace of the pentamirror,, better video like the 70D is now better buffer and FPS but canon will have to keep it below the 80D ...will put a lot on the price
Don't think that many people are interested in the pro one with the big jump in price. Ergonomics fast access to controls is just important in that part of the market. Which is why some mirrorless become bigger body wise then the 100d.
You need some space to place those buttons without it becoming fidly.
well fuji and others are pushing small cameras as PRO with weather sealing, etc
the ergonomics are surprisingly good i can change ISO,shutter speed,F stop, E comp, AF point with my eye to the OVF (af selection is faster on my 5D with the joystick but only canons top dslr have one) and with the touch screen i can check for focus faster than you can with a Canon 1DX
i would pay for a 100D pro....
