Just to be clear, I was not saying the G12 produced better pictures....what I was trying to say was that the lens on the G5X did not seem to be good enough to take advantage of the increased pixel density vs the G12. The net effect being that the G5X did not necessarily produce better or sharper images than the G12.

Maybe that is not what you were trying/wanted to say, but that is what you originally said (or implied, at least) - you said (1) "the lens resolution seems to be around the same, so that there appears to be no benefit in having almost twice as many pixels", (2) "the G5X lens is definitely soft, particularly at the wide end", and (3) "There is slightly more noise on the G5X than the G12 also."

From these three, one may certainly conclude that G12 is up to par, if not better than G5 X - lens resolution about the same, while G5 X has a definitely soft lens and slightly more noise.

Now, your last post says something similar, but conclusion is a bit different - "that G5 X does not necessarily produce better or sharper images than the G12". So, from here, you might be saying that G5 X does produce better/sharper images (in general, or...?), but not necessarily (?).

And that is the part I`m interested in - of course that one camera, even though it might be (more or less) better, will not necessarily produce better/sharper images all the time. There is at least one more factor to it - a man behind that camera

But besides that, also the scene one is shooting in might influence the end result - and that was my point of interest, merely to see if you usually use your camera in scenarios that emphasize G12`s advantages, while exploiting all G5 X`s disadvantages - which exact scenarios those might be, and how important others may find them.

Not to get me wrong, I`m not judging your photography knowledge/experience, nor your personal opinion you developed, I was just curious to try to understand how was that opinion formed as it seemed pretty harsh, because even though the lens on G5 X is compromised up to a point for sure, the overall result/output in terms of image quality should be clearly on G5 X`s side (over G12) - except maybe in some specific cases (sunny day, wide open... or maybe macro?), while your initial post was implying that G5 X is not better (lens resolution around the same), but even worse (soft lens, more noise).

As I already said, on the other hand, as soon as amount of light starts decreasing (or you start zooming in), I`d expect G5 X to be a clear winner, hands down. That may not be your point of interest, but I think it`s an important discussion point in topics like this, just that people don`t get the wrong overall idea based on a rather specific opinion.
