I'm getting interested on the 4K video on both the GH4 and GX8 but have some questions:

  • Is there a limit on how many minutes one can records on a single continuous recording? I think it's 29 mins.

I think Europe some versions have the 29 min limit. I thin pretty much the rest of the world does not have any limit.

  • Does the camera overheats on long recordings?

I have GH4 and it does not overheat; never stops for heating problems like what I read about other cameras. I think the size of the GX8 is probably to reduce or eliminate heating problems.

  • How long does the battery on video recording?

I have never ran out with capturing videos. The GH4 and GH3 share a portrait grip (non OEM versions are fairly inexpensive in eBay)  that includes another battery and this doubles the time.

  • How do you avoid banding?

4K and exposing correctly

  • Is it better to shoot 24/30/60 pfs?

4K is 24/25/30 only; use 24/25 for "cinematic look" 30 can do fast motion better. Use 1080 with 60fps when you want to film fast motion. GH4 also can go up to 94fps without audio for pretty good slow motion.

I do have the Pany 12-35/2.8 which I will be using. How does the AF of this lens when using video or is it better to use manual focusing? Will be shooting indoor events majority of the time.

4K does AF slowly; apparently the camera can't dedicate enough performance for better AF. 1080 recording does better AF. I find that video is best done with manual focus. I have the 12-35 lens and it works well.

Any tips/advice regarding 4K video recording are great appreciated.

Be prepared to be open to post process your video clips if you want to share them as most people do not have 4K displays. The good news is that 1080 looks awesome when converted from 4K. You should also try the 4K Photo feature.

Thanks in advance.
