Comparing my G7 to the older G3 it is very obvious that Panasonic has built the G7 as cheaply as possible so as to be able to sell it at a competive price point to entry level DSLR,s and still turn a profit. The battery door and evf optics are good example.

I personally would have preferrred to have paid more for a higher quality G7 as I find the handling far superior to any other m43 camera including the GX7 and EM1.

surely all products are built as cheaply as possible.

Not at all. They may be built as 'efficiently' as possible to meet a certain price point in the market but I've actually bought stuff built as cheaply as possible and they are just not quality items.

The last time I was tempted to buy a cheaply built product was just this week when I foolishly bought the cheapest NATO G10 watch strap I could find in the colour I wanted. I soon found out why it was so cheap, in that the buckle is made from liquorice and while 'quality ' ones are 30cms long, this one is only 25cms and won't fit my wrist. Luckily it was so cheap that it isn't worth the postage to send it back. That's real 'cheap' build. A quality one cost between three and six times the price and you get what you pay for compared to the 'cheaply built' one, believe me.

I'm old enough to know better.
