Hello,

I'm thinking of buying a FZ1 from Amazon.uk, but have a few
concerns.

I've heard it has a weak flash, is this a problem in low light conditions?

Talking of low light, I understand all LCD's on digital camera's are hard to see in low light. What is considered low light?

I've also heard (from another thead on this forum) that the focus is problematic at long zoom levels?

Also, I would like to buy a spare battery for this camera. Are these
readly available to buy in the UK, and how much are they?
How long do these batteries last on a full charge?

Any other things I should know about the camera?
Thanks for all advice and comments.

Well, who's to tell you what YOU should buy - but based on my own experience (and same with many others) you'll be hard put to find a better bargain. Not only is the Leica lens a gem but the stabilisation really works..and DON'T bother with spending on a spare battery, It might look smal but I bet it will outlast any memcard you're likely to put in it or to run out before you get home or somewhere to recharge ...it seems to go on for ever !!

As to flash - again, don't be fooled. NO onboard flash on a digi even twice this price is really competant other than for the few instances where conditions just happen to fit. They are all pretty useless - if you want to do any quantity of flash you MUST buy a seperate gun..and http://www.7dayshop.co.uk are now selling ex stock the Vivitar DF-200 flashgun which is an excellent gun, quite a bit of power and it has the unique 'learning' capacity that will adjust itself to the flash output of ANY camera, taking into account any pre-flash that sometimes triggers off a gun too early. At £60 it's more or less suitable for all time (and any future camera) and the money you are thinking of wasting on a battery is mosrt of the flashgun cost - and better spent. Also, buy a decent size SD memcard (say 128Meg to start with) and you'll get enough pics you'll likely need for now. It is in many people's view (not just mine) one helluva good buy - and I can show you pics to prove it !

Thank you for the information in your reply. It has proved to be most
helpful. Thanks

Paul, a suggestion from a user in Japan.

No way for me to know if it is available in your country, as I have not visited UK for 8 years. But from this forum almost all the product from Japan is now throughly available at the almost the same cost !

Using telephoto and handheld to shoot outdoor, burst mode is quite handy to minimise a hand shake and get the right moment ot a moving scene.
SD card will make diference in this occasion. Be sure to buy more than 256MB

with 10MB/sec from Panasonic. The price in Japan for this memory is around US$90. The SD card with the capacity of less than 256MB is only 2MB/sec of data transfer rate.

Usually you do not have a chance of trying an accessary like memory card.

Hope you will make a good shopping.

I have an Olympus UZ700 and a friend has the UZ2100. For us,
a 100 lamp in a 12' x 20' otherwise dark room would make images
in the LCD screens almost black unless you are looking at the lamp.

As long as the camera can focus however, you can just point at your
subject and shoot, then review to see what you got.
